Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can join the WCJP?

A: You can apply to join a WCJP project if you are a Victoria University student studying law, at 200-level and above. However our events are open to all, and anyone can be a general WCJP member signed up to our volunteer database.

Q: When can I apply to join the WCJP?

A: We have an annual intake in March, at the beginning of each school year. We begin with a Launch within the first few weeks of term, in which we introduce all of our projects throughout the year, and also invite a keynote speaker to give an address. Applications open at the Launch and close about a week later, when we begin to make recruitments. Applications will be available in hardcopy at the Launch and online on our website.

Q: If I don't get accepted into a project am I still a member of the WCJP?

A: Yes of course! Every year we are overwhelmed with the amount of interest expressed by law students with a passion for social justice, and unfortunately we cannot sign every person up to a project. However on your application you can opt to remain a general WCJP member and be signed up to our volunteer database. This means you will be on our mailing list and get to hear about what mischief we've been getting up to. To give you an idea of scale, in 2017 we have 180 volunteers attached to a project, and 238 members in total. Whether or not you are selected for a project you are a valued member of the WCJP!

Q: I've missed the application deadline! Can I still volunteer with the WCJP?

A: In the interests of fairness we cannot accept applications for projects after the due date in March. However you can still be a general WCJP member and have the opportunity to volunteer with us during the year, such as at our Bake Sale, in case a spot opens up or if we create a new project.
